Featured Roles

Below is a list of 'featured' roles at the time of the sim's inception. As time goes on, and the story progresses, this is likely to change. Consider this a framework to work from rather than a hard and fast rule. As always, the players will determine how things progress, what the structure is ultimately, and who plays what. Most, if not all, of the featured roles will have to be obtained through in-character methods. If you are interested in playing one of these roles from the start, please contact the Admins.

High Priest/Priestess of Ishtar - **Yasmina Zimminy**

Acting as the voice of the goddess on earth, the High Priest or Priestess of Ishtar wields immense power within the political structure of the city. Chosen in a secret ritual among the other priests, this person is the voice of the Goddess throughout the city. In the past, the role has been held by various people who used the power for good - or for ill.

Character type: Kingmaker, Faction Lead

OOC considerations: This character will be chosen IC by other player characters. How that happens is up to those involved (bribery, threats, good will, etc). Because of the nature of this character, if they become inactive they will be removed from the position.

Trade Prince - **Soapgamer Resident**

Although called a Prince, this person has been historically male or female. Chosen by the High Priest/Priestess, they act as the political head of the city of Uruk and determine the system of government. Their word is law, but heavy is the head that wears the crown.

Character type: Faction Lead, Political, King/Queen

OOC considerations: This character will be chosen IC by other players. Traditionally, it is chosen by the religious faction. Because of the nature of this character, if they become inactive they will be removed.

House of the Jackal - **Franceroto Resident**

One of the renowned gladiator houses of Uruk. Founded many years ago by a transplant of Aquilonia, the house has passed on from parents to children in their own dynasty. Of late, the House of the Jackal has been struggling. Their house has fallen in to some disrepair, as fight after fight, their gladiators did not perform well. But many remember the glory days, when they were the safe bet and produced shows that dazzled the crowds. House Jackal has been known to associate with the darker underbelly of Uruk. It is said they hold connections to the various crime lords of the city. They hold a long held grudge with the House of the Lion. The head of this house can be male or female.

Character type: Merchant, Faction Lead

OOC considerations: This character can be played at the onset. Due to it being a faction lead, if they become inactive they will be removed/replaced.

If you are interested in becoming part of this faction, but not the head of it, please speak to the person listed as faction lead.

House of the Lion - **Aerik Northman and Lossehellin Resident**

One of the renowned gladiator houses of Uruk. They are the forerunners, dominating the arena in recent years. They hold a strong relationship to the wealthy nobility and merchants of the city. Ages ago, this house was founded by a native of Nemedia, and likewise hold a generations-long feud with the House of the Jackal. Those of this house see themselves as the cream of the crop, the best of the gladiators within the city. Because of their recent victories, they hold a significant amount of sway upon the populace, but that hold is tenuous, at best. With each victory and deeper into the pockets of the nobility, they are seen as less and less the gladiators of the masses, and more the fighters of the few. The head of this house can be male or female.

Character type: Merchant, Faction Lead

OOC considerations: This character can be played at the onset. Due to it being a faction lead, if they become inactive, they will be removed/replaced.

If you are interested in becoming part of this faction, but not the head of it, please speak to the person listed as faction lead.

House Naphtali -

One of the three noble houses that comprise the aristocracy of Uruk. The origins of this house are undoubtedly Shemtish, although through the decades, various leaders have intermarried from other kingdoms. Like all the houses, they are regular patrons of the games in the arena. Their wealth has come primarily from the trade of spices, using the geography of Uruk to wrestle a foothold for a larger market that spans through almost every other Kingdom. In recent years, the trade has slowed due to the increase in merchants and safer routes through the desert. No longer holding a monopoly on the spice trade, they face the inevitable slow decline that all the nobility do, unless they find other methods of replenishing their wealth.

Like the spices they built their house on, the personality of those of the Naphtali are vibrant, ranging from sweet to fiery. They're known for being unpredictable, both in their managing of business, and their personal lives.

Character type: Faction Lead, Nobility

OOC considerations: The head of this household may be male or female, and played at the onset. Due to it being a faction lead, if they become inactive they will be removed/replaced.

If you are interested in becoming part of this faction, but not the head of it, please speak to the person listed as faction lead.

House Basan - ** Protracted Resident **

One of the three noble houses that comprise the aristocracy of Uruk. The origins of this house are said to be of Ophir. This is no doubt due to the way in which they came to become one of the wealthy elite; their pottery. Said to be the finest in the world, the pottery of House Basan is not only functional, but serves as delicate art. Many of their pots are inlaid with gold and other ornamentation, making them a prized piece for any person wishing to exhibit their wealth. Years ago, a contract was made in which they produced the pottery needed for offerings to various temples in Uruk. This catapulted them to fame, and their pottery remains prized to this day. In recent years however, the increase of merchants, safer roads, and high prices of Basan pottery have caused their wealth to stagnate. They turned to sponsoring arena fighters to maintain their notoriety, but like all houses they are facing a slow decline, unless they find other methods of replenishing their wealth and status.

Basan personality tends to range from down-to-earth, to extravagant. Known for hosting elaborate parties, they care greatly for their social status, but maintain a practical mind in business matters.

House Tizra - ** Katarr Resident**

One of the three noble houses that comprise the aristocracy of Uruk. The origins of this house are Shemtish, and unlike the others, House Tizra tends to intermarry only with other Shemites. The origin of their wealth lay in textiles. What began as rug making, blossomed into a trade which encompasses silks, linens, and wools that are prized all the way to Aquilonia. It was once said that to be caught in any fabric other than Tizra fabric was a sin against the gods, and indeed, many temple priests and priestesses used to order exclusively from this house. In recent years however, like all the houses, House Tizra no longer controls the monopoly on such items. With safer passage through the desert and many merchants flocking to Uruk, Tizra finds itself needing to find a more stable source of income. Their fame has maintained, only through their efforts to sponsor fighters in the arena, but their grip on power - as in the case of all the other noble houses - is tenuous at best.

House Tizra people are known to be witty. Many refer to them as weavers, either spinning tales or catching others in their webs.

Tavern Owner - **xRiViTx Resident**

In any mercantile town, the tavern becomes the hub of activity. The place where secrets are spilled, deals are made, drinks are flowing, and cage fights determine who might be chosen for one of the gladiator houses. To run this tavern, is to be the king (or queen) of one's own tiny empire. The tavern sits below the Trade Prince's house, giving them an otherwise unheard of access to the seat of power.

Character type: Faction Lead, Merchant

OOC Considerations: This may be male, or female, but must be extremely active and willing to juggle many things at once. Due to this, if they become inactive, they will be removed/replaced.

Criminal Overlord - **Asavarkull Resident**

An influential and shadowy figure with their fingers in the lucrative betting that surrounds the weekly arena bouts and tavern cage fights. There is great potential for wealth if the right cards are played. What direction the crime goes in, is entirely up to whomever wishes to take on the more dangerous aspects of Uruk.

Character type: Faction Lead, Criminal

OOC Considerations: May be male or female, but must be active and willing to juggle this and a high amount of danger. There is also a possibility of more than one of this role. If they become inactive, they will be removed/replaced.

Mercenary Leader -

With the lack of wars in recent years, whole companies of mercenaries and sellswords have had to seek employment elsewhere. Some have turned to the gladiator houses, others have remained in the company of their own ilk. Comprised of people whose loyalty is sold to the highest bidder, the head of this mercenary company could find themselves in the center of political and social strife... if they play their cards right.

Character Type: Faction Lead, Combat

OOC Considerations: To start a company, the leader must have at least five (5) people willing to join the company with them. A base of operations is provided. May be male or female, but must be active and willing to use the combat system. Inactivity will result in removal of this role.
